Well, well, well. We find ourselves in a bit of a situation. By the grace of God we sensed it coming but nevertheless it is a little unnerving. Last Wednesday my husband's position was terminated. YIKES!
While this is no picnic, I am certainly not panicked like I would have been even a few years ago. This is why....
I will try to make an extremely long story very short. My husband is one of those people that is good at everything. (I'm not biased, REALLY!!!! Every place he's ever worked, he's started out doing one thing and ended up getting promotion upon promotion because he's, well, good! He's self-motivated, a man of integrity, he's a quick study, becomes fluent on any topic rapidly, treats people well, mentors those who work for him, isn't political, does the right thing for the company and the people who work for him, treats everyone with respect, and is creative with solutions for tough business problems. Can you tell what I think of him? Okay, I'll stop.
But that's not the reason for the lack of panic. There are a few verses that have been on my mind, forced to my attention over and over again this year. I read Psalms and Proverbs nearly every day of my life because I think the principles and situations in both books have so much to do with our lives every day. The verses that have had such an effect on me are Psalm 33:16-18 and Psalm 147:10 & 11. In other words, it really doesn't matter just how qualified or amazing my dearly beloved is.....what matters is that "He delights in the man who fears Him, who puts his hope in His unfailing love." "No king is saved by the size of his army, no warrior escapes by his great strength". These verses are especially significant for us here in Michigan where the economy gravitates somewhere between the toilet and the septic tank. Jobs are scarce. So I suppose it's good that it's not the strength of the economy that will deliver us from being unemployed, it's the might of our God. If DH gets a new position quickly in this environment, we'll certainly know Who provided it.
